Summer Farm Market: Fresh Peppers

Nothing says summer quite like the bold crunch and vibrant flavor of fresh summer peppers. At Goebbert’s Farm & Garden Center, we’re proud to bring you the season’s best in color, spice, and variety. From sweet and mild to fiery hot, our fresh summer peppers are hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness, ensuring incredible flavor, crisp texture, and maximum nutrition.

The journey from our fields to your table is a short one, which means every pepper retains its just-picked freshness. Whether you’re grilling out, snacking raw, or spicing up a homemade salsa, Goebbert’s peppers bring the true taste of summer to every plate. For those planning their garden for next year, you can also find these same varieties in our Spring Garden Center: Peppers collection, perfect for homegrown harvests.

Lady Bell Pepper

A true garden classic. Our Lady Bells shine with a deep green gloss and develop into rich reds as they ripen. Their thick walls and grassy-sweet flavor make them ideal for stuffing, slicing into salads, or tossing on the grill. Mild and versatile, they’re a kitchen essential all season long.

Poblano Pepper

Poblanos are a deep, dark green, and shaped like a wide heart. They’re fairly mild, with an earthy flavor that some detect as a little smoky.

Gypsy

These beauties ripen in a vibrant gradient from pale yellow-green to deep red. With thin walls, mild sweetness, and a hint of fruitiness, Gypsies are excellent for quick sautés, sheet-pan roasting, or adding color and crunch to fajitas. They’re as pretty as they are tasty.

Melrose

A true Chicagoland heirloom, the Melrose pepper is a local favorite. These slender Italian-style peppers are prized for their buttery sweetness and tender texture when sautéed. Traditional recipes feature them pan-fried in olive oil and garlic, perfect alongside sausage, folded into eggs, or served over pasta.

Jalapeño

The iconic jalapeño offers just the right kick for salsas, nachos, and tacos. Ours are picked green for a grassy, slightly earthy flavor and medium heat. Grill them whole, slice them raw, or stuff and bake them for a spicy-satisfying appetizer.

serrano pepper plants
Serrano

If you love heat, you’ll love Serranos. Hotter and slimmer than jalapeños, these peppers have thin skin and a bright, spicy flavor that holds up beautifully in fresh salsas, ceviche, or hot sauces. A little goes a long way.

hot banana pepper plant
Hot Banana

Their sunny color might suggest sweetness, but these bananas bite back with a medium heat and tangy finish. Try them grilled, stuffed, or pickled to add a bold zip to sandwiches, kebabs, and pizza.
